From Withypool to Tarr Steps – A Step Back in Time

Location: Starting from Withypool car park; 10:30am

Join a member of The Exmoor Society following a lovely stretch of the River Barle along the waymarked path from Withypool to Tarr Steps. The route crosses the clapper bridge ancient monument, climbs to the open moorland of Withypool Hill, passing two prehistoric sites then descending back to Withypool; a round walk of 9½ miles. Ponies on Winsford Hill

Location: Starting from the main public car park above Tarr Steps, TA22 9PY: 11:00am - 3:00pm

Join the Exmoor Society on a 6 mile walk through woodland up to the moors at Winsford Hill. Enjoy extensive views in all directions and with luck you may see Exmoor Ponies. Some reasonably steep ascents and descents. Dogs on leads welcome. Please bring a picnic.

Lorna Doone – A shorter guided walk

Location: Starting from Malmsmead car park, EX35 6NU: 1:30pm - 5:00pm

A 4.5 mile walk visiting sites associated with Lorna Doone – along Badgworthy Water, past the Waterslide, up Lank Combe and returning via Malmsmead Hill and Post Lane to Malmsmead. Dogs on leads welcome.

Mineral Line Ralegh’s Cross Long Walk

Dates: Tue 08 Aug 2017
Location: Starting from Ralegh’s Cross Inn, TA23 0LN; 9:45am - 3:45pm

Explore the engineering connected with iron mining and its setting in the Brendon Hills on this walk brought to you by the West Somerset Mineral Line Association. During the 7 mile walk you will visit Beulah Chapel, Brendon village and the Winding House. The route then takes you down to Comberow, through the woods to Leighland Chapel, circling back via a picturesque waterfall. Steep paths involved. Bring a packed lunch. Booking essential. Marcus hopes to be able to show you rutting stags with their impressive antlers, but although there is never a 100% guarantee of spotting them, your guide's enthusiasm and knowledge of the local deer population and habitats will make this a fascinating walk, whatever the outcome.
